Jewish Life

At BB Camp, children of all backgrounds and levels of observance come together to celebrate Jewish life. In our unique and welcoming community, experiential Jewish living helps campers feel proud of who they are. We integrate positive Jewish identification, a connection to Israel, and Jewish spirituality into each camper's experience. The following Jewish values are the foundation of camp and are integrated into all aspects of daily camp life.

  • Ahavat Israel - Love for the people of Israel, its culture, language and land
  • B’tselem Elohim - Each individual is created in the image of God. Honor everyone’s individual differences and strengths and celebrate diversity and commonalities. We commit to treat each other with respect, honor, sensitivity and dignity. Individual talents are treasured gifts to be nurtured and encouraged.
  • Kehilah - Respect for our camp community and the greater community
  • Manhigut - Leadership BB Camp strives to infuse the camp experience with leadership opportunities, both individual and collective.
  • Mitzvah - Recognizing and fulfilling our obligation we bear towards God, the Jewish people and humanity
  • Ruach - Spirit is infused into each cabin, into the curriculum, into the connections that people make with one another during each day. Individual talents are treasured gifts to be nurtured and encouraged.
  • Tikkun Olam - Respect and repair for the environment by:
    1. Providing a variety of engaging and meaningful social action opportunities appropriate for individuals, small groups and the camp community at large;
    2. Educating our camp community about societal injustices and suggesting remedial action;
    3. Teaching tzedakah as a way of life. We strive to help our campers realize, from the youngest age, the mutual, reciprocal rewards that come from being responsible, creative participants and leaders in our society.
    4. Teaching an awareness and concern for our environment.

Campers are active members in shaping our rich Jewish community through blessings at meals, daily morning services, Shabbat celebrations, Havdalah, song sessions, Kosher (non-supervised) meals, Israeli staff and specialty programs that are all woven into each session at Camp.
