STAFF SPOTLIGHTThe end of summer 2009 marks the retirement of three camp staff who have made a significant contribution to the growth and development at BB Camp. At the closing of this year's AC Homecoming ceremony, Miran Marcus, Jenny Sumerlus and Adam Rossi were each recognized for their years of service and dedication to BB Camp and awarded a paddle commemorating their achievements on behalf of the Board of Directors.
Miran has worked at BB Camp for six summers having served as Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, Tripper, AC Outtripper and for the past two summers as Resource Director. Miran helped develop new resource rotations for campers and ensured the coordination of all resource areas for each camper age group. Miran, who completed her BA degree last year, will be moving to Toronto in late fall to pursue a certification program in Human Resources at George Brown College.
Jenny has completed her 19th summer out at BB Camp, ten of which she has served the camp in a number of staff capacities. Jenny has worked as a Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, Canoeing Instructor, LTP Coordinator, Section Head and AC Outtripper prior to her work as the Camp's Program Director for the past three years. Jenny has been instrumental in program development and new initiatives created for our First Session and Second Session campers and overseeing the running of the Camp's Outdoor Education program. Jenny completed her Bachelor of Education degree last year and will be working with grade five students beginning this fall at JB Mitchell School in Winnipeg.
Adam has served on the BB Camp staff for nine seasons. These positions include Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, Music Specialist, LTP Coordinator, Resource Director and for the past three summers as the Camp's Assistant Director. Adam has been a leading force in staff development and program expansion and has played an integral role in creating a positive camp climate for both campers and staff. His hard work and dedication to BB Camp is evident in all areas of camp activity. Adam currently holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology and is exploring graduate schools to further his education.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Administration, we wish Miran, Jenny and Adam the best of luck in their future endeavours and applaud their achievements and commitment to BB Camp. They will be sorely missed.
